o Getting there…

Planes to Belize aren’t as popular as planes going to New York City. Often you will have to not fly direct. You will have layovers, different airports, ect. From Huntsville, AL to Atlanta, GA to Belize City, Belize (without counting layovers) takes about 4 hours and 10 minutes. There is a time change, we are 1 hour ahead of them.

The cost for plane flights varies between different companies. Some of the lowest prices were $489 and $581. One of the highest was $1225.

Another problem getting to Belmopan is there isn’t an airport in Belmopan. The closest airport is in Belize City. Belize City is about 1 hour away from Belmopan. To rent a car to get there, get around while your there and return it when you leave is about $95 a day.

o Hotels

There are two hotels I would recommend. The first one is the Super Palm Resort. This hotel’s rooms cost about $46 a night. Although it’s just a 2½ star hotel, it’s not something that you wouldn’t like to stay in.

Another hotel you may want to stay in is the Banana Bank Lodge. Even though it’s rated a 2 star hotel, it would be an AWESOME place to stay at. They have horseback riding lessons/just ride around the park. Have little kids? No problem. This place even has babysitting.


o Places To Go

There are MANY places to see in Belize. One amazing place is the Belize zoo. The Belize zoo is different than most zoos. It doesn’t import animals. Instead it gets native animals to Central America and displays them. The animals were not captured to be in the zoo. They were either previously injured, pets that their owners had to give up because things got out of control, or the government had to seize them because of illegal ownership. The Belize zoo also has a night program where the staff gives you a tour to see what the animals do at night for $20 a person. The night program also includes a free day ticket.

You could also drive down to Belize City and go to the beach. The beaches in Belize are beautiful, and fun.

The Caracol Ruins are a very fun place to go to for a day in Belize. It’s called “the supreme Maya sentre” When you tour it a lot of times a trip to the Rio Frio cave is included.

o Restaurants

There are lots of good restaurants in Belmopan. Some include: The Caladium Restaurant serves Belizean meals and has daily specials. Across the street is Aloha Restaurant which serves Taiwanese foods, coffee and ice cream. In back of the Belize Bank is the Galleria Restaurant that has daily Belizean specials and soups in a setting that displays the artwork of Carolyn Carr. Just past the Shell Station on Constitution Drive is Piccini’s Italian Restaurant that serves an array of Italian, Mexican and American dishes. A half a block further is air-conditioned The Diamond Chinese Restaurant which has a 10+ page menu and serves large portions of food. Located on Forest Drive, going toward the Hummingbird Highway is the Friendship Chinese Restaurant which serves Chinese and Taiwanese foods.
